One Secret to a Working Mom's Success: Keep Standing

Me, standing in Barbados Those of us who live our lives out loud on the internet subject ourselves to scrutiny. Some comment, "Nobody's life is perfect. These posts must be fake," Those making those comments might even be close to us because they "know our business" and they whisper and gossip and say, "she's so fake".  To those who may read my blog and make such comments, (the trolls) know that I hear you, see you, and completely disagree.

Reading on the Run: Articles of Interest to Working Mom (Kardashian Tips)

“I don’t think women can have it all. I just don’t think so. We pretend to have it all. We pretend we can have it all.

Indra Nooyi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo

Successful working women keep track of important matters in the news. However, we are not one-dimensional. Some of us also want to keep up with celebrity gossip and fashion news too. Even in the era of the Internet and 24 hour news shows and E!, it can be challenging to keep up with everything.

Fortunately for you, I make it my job to keep up on articles of interest to working moms and when I find notable ones, I share them with you. This week we're highlighting Kim Kardashian's experience as a working mom.  Here's a huge revelation, we don't have much in common with her.

This reading on the run issue is designed to amuse my working mom friends.  Apparently Kin Kardashian is critical PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi who has said that working moms can’t have it all.  Kim has intimated that Ms. Nooyi’s comments are “not positive”.  She also says that her mother taught her how to “have it all”.  While I admire the accomplishments of the Kardashian clan in some ways, I think that Kim should have kept her mouth shut.
She is not an educated woman, knows nothing about what it is like to work a nine-to-five job and otherwise lacks Ms. Nooyi’s credentials.

Kudos to Kim for pimping leveraging a sex tape into an empire, but let’s not pretend that she’s a “self made woman” in the way that term is commonly used.  And let’s not disrespect working moms in pretending that she’s like the rest of us.  Indeed, her entire empire—her app and reality show, “Keeping up with the Kardashians” are designed to illustrate that she is different.  She may have it all, but what she has isn't even what the rest of us are striving for.
