One Secret to a Working Mom's Success: Keep Standing

Me, standing in Barbados Those of us who live our lives out loud on the internet subject ourselves to scrutiny. Some comment, "Nobody's life is perfect. These posts must be fake," Those making those comments might even be close to us because they "know our business" and they whisper and gossip and say, "she's so fake".  To those who may read my blog and make such comments, (the trolls) know that I hear you, see you, and completely disagree.

A Little Good News: I Got a Sprinkle of Pixie Dust From Disney #DisneySMMC

To all who come to this happy place: Welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America, with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.

Our country has been divided since the election last fall. And since President Trump's inauguration, Facebook has been flooded with comments about the controversial things that have happened. Like all of you, I have been thinking, lamenting, ad discussing really heavy things lately. I have no great insight. The quote above from Walt Disney is a reminder that America is the product of people who have believed in its promise and have united to create a better life. In a word, life is a gift. Each day that we are blessed with life we should celebrate anyway. And I have some really cool things to celebrate!

Today, I am reflecting on two really cool things that happened in 2016. First, I was honored to be selected to be a member of Disney Social Media Moms, not once, but twice! In May, our family visited Disney World as part of this event and had an amazing time. Disney World rolled out the red carpet for us. We enjoyed Fast Passes to rides. We had the very best food. Also, I had the benefit of hearing from social media experts about how to become an even more prominent social media influencer.

And the network I made was priceless. I met (and reacquainted with) so many. I encourage you to check out these wonderful folks--Allyson Downey, Maria Smith, Tonia Sanders, they helped to make my experience even more special.

“If you can dream it, you can do it.  Always remember this whole thing was started by a mouse.”
Walt Disney

The other amazing thing that happened on that visit to Disney was that my sister, Jeryn, was able to join us on the conference! Jeryn lives in Atlanta and I have long dreamt about our being able to travel together and enjoy family time. And it happened! Every time it works out I am overjoyed because that is my girl!

Having her there helped to make our experience even more amazing. First, having an extra adult with you at Disney World is a luxury that you soon realize is a necessity. Second, she has dietary restrictions. Because she was traveling with us I was able to learn how far Disney will go to accommodate guests. And you know what, it is pretty damn far! Once she ordered gluten-free food, Disney made a note and delivered gluten-free cookbooks and other information to our room. They went above and beyond to ensure that we all had a magical experience, even if one of us had customized needs.

We are fortunate to be returning for the 2017 Disney Social Media Moms event very soon. And this year the event is on both land and sea. That's right, we're going on a Disney Cruise baby!!! It's the first time that Andre and the kids will be cruising. So, it's really special. We are looking forward to the magic. On our trip, we'll be taking a break from the hard things going on in America and focusing on the things going right. I am sure that the hard things will be waiting for us when we return...

Stay tuned for posts about our trip!
