Easter Reminded Me of the Miracles That Are My Children

Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Things have been busy. I am still a working mom of three, working full time who is trying to make a difference. I do a lot of things and try to be present so that I can learn from them. I share them on this blog so that we can learn together. Below are some thoughts, hacks, and/or lessons that I have learned from navigating my world. Below is a tale of my road to becoming the mother of three. It was a road filled with joys and disappointments. However, I wouldn't giving nothing for my journey now. Here's to embracing every step of the journey, even the painful ones, and embracing the lessons learned along the way.

Good News, Girls With Working Moms Win!

  • A recent study suggests that working moms should not feel guilty about working. YEAH!!!

Successful working women keep track of important matters in the news. However, we are not one-dimensional. Some of us also want to keep up with celebrity gossip and fashion news too. Even in the era of the Internet and 24 hour news shows and E!, it can be challenging to keep up with everything.

Fortunately for you, I make it my job to keep up on articles of interest and resources to working moms and when I find notable ones, I share them with you. Below is one entitled,"Girls With Working Moms Get Better Jobs and Higher Pay, According to Research". The title alone made my heart sing!

Every working mom with small I know feels guilty about working. Every single one. The guilt generally stems from a fear that by working we'll harm our kids for life because we alone are the source of their life, soul, and strength--and we are gone a lot.  We perseverate. We lie awake at night sometimes and cry in our cars because we are convinced that the working and the mothering are in direct conflict.

We talk to working moms with grown children to find out how they made it work. Often we find out that they, like Nancy Pelosi, stayed home when their kids were young and started working full time after their kids were school aged. That's why I feel so fortunate to work with a few women who worked the entire time and have multiple children. One particularly bad ass woman had four successful girls and she looks fabulous to boot.

And then, there is my own mother. She raised three children, worked full time the entire time (with the exception of one semester) and also got promoted several times. Her children are college educated. The two girls have advanced degrees and the youngest, retired from banking, is pursuing his dreams and is on the road to becoming rich and famous.

These are the stories that are often untold.  And the study below suggests that they aren't anomalies. Apparently girls with working moms absorb through observation and osmosis that career success and economic empowerment are the goals.

YEAH!!! We can relax. Working is totally worth it.
