Easter Reminded Me of the Miracles That Are My Children

Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Things have been busy. I am still a working mom of three, working full time who is trying to make a difference. I do a lot of things and try to be present so that I can learn from them. I share them on this blog so that we can learn together. Below are some thoughts, hacks, and/or lessons that I have learned from navigating my world. Below is a tale of my road to becoming the mother of three. It was a road filled with joys and disappointments. However, I wouldn't giving nothing for my journey now. Here's to embracing every step of the journey, even the painful ones, and embracing the lessons learned along the way.

Halloween fun in Pittsbrugh!

My sister has always loved Halloween, but I have been slow to the party. However, now that I have kids, I am all in and totally here for it. That said, I haven't yet managed to succeed at identifying a "family costume". One, because I am not my sister, such creativity isn't intuitive. Second, and probably the biggest obstacle, doing a family anything is a bit of a challenge. Andre is temperamental. If it's his idea to wear a costume, he'll do it. If he feels that the costume was imposed upon him, he refuses. Since he isn't a planner, most things tend to feel imposed.

Anyway...

The kids don't often agree on what they want to be. This year, the two older ones each had clown costumes. I thought it would have been super cute for them to wear them. Their collective response, "I'm not wearing that in public." Really are we there already at nine and five??? Apparently, we are. The baby isn't easy either because he's got lots of opinions that he can't clearly articulate. So, he's objects with cries. So, the photo above, reflects us our truth. Generally, everybody kind of does whatever the hell they want.

Much respect to those families who managed to pull off matching costumes though. Send me messages to Chaton's World or comment on this post. I desperately want to know how you pulled it off!!!

Happy Halloween!!!

A Halloween story from 1989. My son had just turned three and he refused a costume...when asked who he was supposed to be, he told neighbors, "I'm John" and acted like they were the odd ones for asking a stupid question. One elderly neighbor, after hearing him say his name, said, "Well that's better than my grandson's costume. He's an injured turtle."

We didn't ask, but we thought she may have meant "Ninja Turtle."
