Wordless Wednesday: Fashion Dilemma

Friday Tip: Stay in style (Save $2.00 off April Issue of InStyle)

Image
Some times we get so busy with our daily lives that we let our style slip. If you're a mom, it's easy enough to do. The baby needs changing, the bathrooms need cleaning and the floor need mopping. If you're also working outside if the home you have to navigate traffic, manage your work schedule, and meet your deadlines. With all of those demands it's easy for your style to become an after thought. Don't let it happen! Being stylish increases your credibility, increases your self image, and let's your children and partner know that your matter. I'm not talking about spending a lot of money necessarily. I'm a huge fan of discount chains like Marshall's and TJ Maxx. I have also gotten really lucky at Target. Shopping without a plan can be overwhelming though. That's where INSTYLE can help. It's like a style handbook. It can teach you how to put together the clothes you already have and help you identify what you should buy to supplement th

Oscar Fashions, Lessons and Angelina Jolie

Image
I may never have Angelina Jolie ’s money. I may never have her notoriety. And I know that I will never sleep with Brad Pitt .   However, after watching the Oscars I have decided that I am committed to trying to acquire her confidence. A lot of people mocked Angelina after the awards.   But I was in awe. I admired her style. And I thought she was completely bad ass.   That night she looked into the camera, cocked her right leg and said to all of us, “I am Angelina. Y’all better recognize!” And I had a serious case of confidence envy. Sometimes I worry that my style, manner of communicating, and ideas might make others uncomfortable. When that feeling comes over me, I retreat. I become a little more quiet. I become a little smaller. I become a little less of who I am. I have achieved some success, but this practice of “shrinking” has interfered with me living my best life. I have done this at work. I have done this in social situations. And I know that I did it when I was

I am mothering in flats, but they are by Tory Burch!

Rosie Pope is famous for her show, " Pregnant in Heels ".  I was all about my heels while I was pregnant and am wore the cutest Miu Miu patent leather low boots to work today.  However, on the weekends with my baby I am mothering in flats, but they are " Tory Burch " and I am partial to my " Uggs " too. As you can tell.  I am a mom who loves fashion, but I am not alone. Who knew?!  Now because of Melissa Gerstein and fellow mom blogger Denise Albert the fashion world does. Thanks to Melissa and Denise moms were highlighted during New York's Fashion Week .  (check out the link below) They even used mommy bloggers as models.

Style Tip for My Stylish Friends: HUGE One Day Kate Spade Sale

Image
I am so excited that I can barely type. All fashion lovers know that Kate Spade is in a class all her own. Her clothes, shoes, and accessories are feminine, elegant, and stylish.  Any woman with any fashion awareness admires Kate Spade. There's one problem though.  Kate Spade, in all of its splendor, can be kinda pricey, especially for moms trying to balance a budget. That is why I can barely contain myself as I write this post.  For some reason only known to the fashion gods and the Kate Spade board of directors, there is a HUGE sale underway right now.  You can score Kate Spade products for up to 75% off. If you click on the "Ebates" tab on the right of my blog you can get the discount AND earn 3.5% cash back on your purchases.  That means you will get a check for shopping. Does it get any better than that??? To put the sale in perspective, there is a baby bag on sale that I lusted after my entire pregnancy. It was priced at $395 so I never bought it.  And regis

Mommy Confession: I Want an iPhone badly!!!

Image
I just saw a commercial about the iPhone   and I was finally able to articulate what I have been feeling for some time.   I am a second class citizen because I don’t have one.   It’s ironic that I saw the commercial today and articulated my feeling so clearly after attending church where message was about overcoming inferiority. Why I Want an iPhone It’s not that I am deeply insecure. It is that the iPhone   is better than my phone.   There is really no point in denying it. It is the holy grail of cell phones . It is cool and functional.   All of my friends who have them casually brag about their iPhone S.   They show me their photos, which are as nearly as good as any taken by a Canon .   They effortlessly post the photos on Facebook .   They have face time. They email. They get directions. You want it. They got it. They are so cool. I see them with it and get a little jealous. I guess you could say that I covet one.   Oops! Those are both inappropriate feelings on a Sund

Fashion Missteps and the Working Mom...

Image
I have a lot of clothes . Most were purchased back when I was a “hot” chick—before Andre and before the baby. Truth be told, if I hadn’t been such a hot chick I may not have snagged Andre. Who knows about that? Knowing him, he didn’t even notice my clothes. While I would be much further along with the baby’s college fund if I had fewer clothes in my closet, I would have had much less fun. Fashion is an exercise in creativity. At the end of the day, fashion is an exercise in creativity and my clothes are my paint brush . Sometimes though, because of my sheer volume of clothes, shoes and accessories, I get overwhelmed or make a fashion mistake. Once I bought a pair of black boots nearly identical to a pair already in my closet. Granted, the second pair gripped my calves better than the first pair. Still, had I remembered that I had purchased the first pair I would have saved my money. OK, that’s probably not true. I would have probably bought something else. Before Andre came
