A Secret to Success This New Year: Become Committed and Resilient

Mom and son celebrating the new year in the Bahamas in 2025! "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." – Confucius Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ! Things have been busy. I am still a working mom of three , working full time who is trying to make a difference. I do a lot of things and try to be present so that I can learn from them. I share them on this blog so that we can learn together. Below are some thoughts, hacks, and/or lessons that I have learned from navigating my world. 2025 was intense. I faced a convergence of pressures: the stress of navigating life as a single mom while paying considerable  alimony ,  an intensifying family situation since we lost my beloved aunt, my dad, and my cousin’s mom—work related stress—learning a new job after an imposed job change, all while navigating the rapid pace of raising my kids and trying to maintain a standard of living for them with fewer resources. Together, these factor...

Babies, Bills and Surprises!

True confessions... Sometimes I use my cell phone as a baby soother.  Something about it puts her in a trance. She studies it like an she's an engineer trying to figure out how it works.

It's kind of funny actually.  She has three "baby cell phones", but she has little interest in them.  Somehow she seems to know that they're fake and she likes the real one.  I never let her play with it for long, but it can usually buy me 5-10 minutes of free time to do my makeup.

Well, I may learn my lesson for letting her play with it.  When I took it from her I saw a photo of some people who were clearly not us.  Upon closer inspection it was Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon, their kids and Barbara Walters.  I have no idea how they wound up on my phone.

My assumption is the baby downloaded their photo from the internet. Guess what, that's a problem. A HUGE problem.  I don't pay for the web package on my phone. My guess is that when I get my bill, I'll have a surprise.

Note to mommy: only let the baby play with the landline phone!

You'll have to get a data plan. Your baby sounds too curious!
She seems to be both smart and curious. I wonder what other surprises she has in store for us?!

This was so funny. My daughter's son was in high school and texted a lot. The bill was $522.00
I hope your bill will be gentler.

If it's really high, try calling the company and explaining about the baby, once they stop laughing they'll probably give you a break.
LOL. I learned with Moo to keep my cell phone away from kids. She would be calling all sorts of numbers and clicking on the internet. Thank goodness, we have unlimited data and stuff because we would have been in for some surprise charges on our bill too.
