Advice to Employers: Please Create Policies Assuming All Worker Are Single

Me and my daughter Motherhood is harder than it needs to be. This is partially because of the inexcusable work/life policies in the U.S., but also because of our own outsized expectations. We are living in an age when the ideal mom is a mash-up between the helicopter mom, the corporate exec, and the earth mama — and there's just not enough high-efficiency, low-emissions biofuel to go around.  –Elissa Strauss,  Why I don't want 'mom friends' We just celebrated "Mother's Day" and honored mothers and other women who help make the world and our families a better place. Every year at this time, I think about what mothers really need to be successful and independent. I say, "independent" because developing policies and legislation that are premised on the notion that all working moms have supportive families and/or spouses is not in the best interest of working moms. Instead, Corporate America and Congress should develop policies and legislation that p

Babies, Bills and Surprises!

True confessions... Sometimes I use my cell phone as a baby soother.  Something about it puts her in a trance. She studies it like an she's an engineer trying to figure out how it works.

It's kind of funny actually.  She has three "baby cell phones", but she has little interest in them.  Somehow she seems to know that they're fake and she likes the real one.  I never let her play with it for long, but it can usually buy me 5-10 minutes of free time to do my makeup.

Well, I may learn my lesson for letting her play with it.  When I took it from her I saw a photo of some people who were clearly not us.  Upon closer inspection it was Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon, their kids and Barbara Walters.  I have no idea how they wound up on my phone.

My assumption is the baby downloaded their photo from the internet. Guess what, that's a problem. A HUGE problem.  I don't pay for the web package on my phone. My guess is that when I get my bill, I'll have a surprise.

Note to mommy: only let the baby play with the landline phone!

You'll have to get a data plan. Your baby sounds too curious!
She seems to be both smart and curious. I wonder what other surprises she has in store for us?!

This was so funny. My daughter's son was in high school and texted a lot. The bill was $522.00
I hope your bill will be gentler.

If it's really high, try calling the company and explaining about the baby, once they stop laughing they'll probably give you a break.
LOL. I learned with Moo to keep my cell phone away from kids. She would be calling all sorts of numbers and clicking on the internet. Thank goodness, we have unlimited data and stuff because we would have been in for some surprise charges on our bill too.
