One Secret to Success for a Working Mom, Expand Your Village (Jack and Jill of America)

Jack and Jill of America member and her daughter Recently, I have become keenly aware that good kids are created by accident. They become good because someone made a concerted effort to pour positive things into them--things like, honor, discipline and respect for others. These qualities are taught through lessons and by observation. For that reason, I have been actively considering how to give my children more examples of people who embody those qualities.  Indeed, raising my children to become good people is my most important job.

Political Scandal: Kwame Kilpatrick should resign...

I have been completely consumed with the hot mess called Detroit politics. It has all of the elements of a good soap opera--sex, lies, and text messages.

On March 24, 2008, Kwame Kilpatrick, Mayor of Detroit, was charged with perjury, conspiracy, obstruction of justice and misconduct in office, charges in which he faces time in prison if convicted. Conviction of these crimes would also cause him to lose his mayoral position. However, shouldn't Kilpatrick simply resign anyway?

In addition to his legal troubles, Kilpatrick’s tenure has been marked by various scandals and plagued by suspicions of ethical misconduct. To summarize, throughout his administration Kilpatrick has been accused of lying, cheating, and stealing. And some of those allegations have proven true.

Viewed individually, you may have various opinions about the allegations. Viewed collectively, you will find them incredibly embarrassing for Kilpatrick and his beloved city. And even if you don't think that Kilpatrick should go to jail, you'll conclude that he has incredibly bad judgment.

That’s why I think Kilpatrick should resign. At the end of the day, a mayor is supposed to make his/her city proud. And Kilpatrick hasn’t done that for quite some time.
