A Secret to Success as a Working Mom: Turn Burn Out Into Bliss and Embrace Joy

Last weekend my youngest was committed to going to the "Water Steps" a man-made water fall in Pittsburgh by the rivers. (Fun Fact: Three rivers converge in Pittsburgh--The Ohio River, The Monongahela River, and the Allegheny River.)  He kept asking. I knew he was serious when he said, "If you won't take me, I'll ask  daddy!" Given that it was highly unlikely that would happen on an unscheduled day, I relented. So, we went. It wasn’t planned in the way most things in my life are. No calendar block. No checklist. No “productive” purpose attached. And, so in some respects it was uncomfortable. And yet, it seemed necessary. It was the idea of my 8-year-old—offered with the kind of urgency only children possess when something is profoundly important to them.

How I Finally Got to Attend the 2012 Democratic National Convention (almost)

As mentioned in my previous post, I wish that I was in Charlotte, NC attending the Democratic National Convention. I have watched the convention every day from the comfort of my home. I even started watching it on C-Span so I didn't have my viewing time interrupted by commercials!

I enjoyed the speeches, the commentary, and supported the festivities by toasting the speakers on my couch with a glass of red wine.  I laughed. I cried. I cheered! But still, I had been wishing that I could be there.

Well, thanks to my dear friend, Amanda, "Chaton Turner" was was able to attend the convention on the final day for President Obama's speech.

Check out these photos:

My friend Amanda who is a super delegate was kind enough to get me a front row seat!

She also made sure that I took an historic shot to prove that I was there!

I was also able to enjoy the excitement and appreciate the crowds "first hand"!

Amanda recently started tweeting under the handle, @finehawklady (http://twitter.com/finehawklady) and I got to tweet with her during the convention too. Having a friend like a Amanda was the next best thing to being there.  Follow her on Twitter to get more information during the remainder of the election season!
