A Peek Into the Life of a Working Mom: Selecting the Right Preschool

On Friday I went on a tour of a reputable preschool. We are considering our childcare options for next year. Although we are generally happy with our current situation everyone tells us that by the time our daughter turns three she “needs to be in school”. So, I have begun touring preschools trying to find the one that is the right fit for us.
I am concerned that we may have some challenges though. During Friday’s tour I inquired about the school’s disciplinary policy and the head master looked at me amazed. Then he commented that “We don’t have significant discipline problems because we’re so careful about the selection of the children at the front end. Children with significant disciplinary problems aren’t right for our school.” He also said that the children have to be potty trained before they join the school.
I got nervous. Our daughter is VERY high spirited.  I think that she could use some discipline. She also is not potty trained. Indeed, she is kind of hostile to the potty. She has been known to kick it!
We’re going to apply and attend the interview. Fortunately the interview is in a few months. By that time, I am sure that our daughter will be more obedient and potty trained.  Here’s hoping! Keep your fingers crossed!!!

Oh ick! Chaton, I would not bother with this interview. ALL kids need discipline. Is this guy saying that "good" kids never misbehave? Or need to learn some impulse control? Don't wait for your spirited girl to be a different person, find a different preschool. Or keep her in your current situation until YOU see a reason to find a new one. Don't worry about what "everyone" says.

I say this - tour as many preschools as you want and when you are in the one that feels right to you...that's the one.

More than likely, the one that has the right vibe for you will feel right to your daughter.

As for the potty thing - I do think that setting guidelines for that is pretty outdated.
