One Secret to a Working Mom Success: Make Family Events More Enjoyable With Friends

Better Together: Why Inviting Another Family Makes Activities More Fun #FamilyFun Sometimes family activities can feel like another item on the to-do list. However, doing those activities with another family makes them more fun! Whether it’s a trip to an amusement park , a visit to the local pool , or trip to a pumpkin patch , including another family can multiply the fun in amazing ways. One of my favorite moms to collaborate with is my friend, Ayana Ledford who's pictured above with her daughter Sahar. We have done all of the things listed as seemingly random examples above and here is how including her and her daughter (and sometimes her son too) has made the events more fun. On the date above, Ayana almost left the venue because parking was a nightmare. That said, she hung in there and we would up having a great time!

My Trip to Chicago as a Verizon Wireless Moms Voices Ambassador #VZWVoices #Mom

[I am participating in the Verizon Moms Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.]

As I mentioned last week, I’m a Verizon Wireless Moms Voices Ambassador! It never gets old saying that by the way. As part of this program I traveled to Chicago last week to receive training and to find out what device I'll be evaluating for the next six months.  I left Pittsburgh last Tuesday and had a whirlwind trip. I was only able to stay in Chicago over night because of my work obligations. So, I packed for one night and went to the airport.

I actually stopped at my home first to get my luggage and to grab a bite to eat. Andre offered to take me to the airport. However, I turned him down. While I would have loved the ride and the company, I know that it would have been hard on the toddler to see me leave. She believes that whenever we go to the airport, we all should be going somewhere, preferably the beach. Also, if you recall, she's the same child who slapped me when she was one and I left on a business trip and I had no interest in reliving that, or disciplining her for it. (Now that she's nearly three we have to start nipping that sort of thing in the bud!)

My Flight and Hotel

My flight was delayed due to weather. As I waited, I kept thinking perhaps this is a sign. Maybe I shouldn't go. However, when another flight became available I got on. I was a little nervous. I kept thinking about this Leeza Gibbons show that I watched once where this woman named Gilda who was an expert in Numerology discussed predicting bad events. I couldn't remember if the flight number meant something good or bad and the thought of it was driving me crazy! I sat next to a future law student who was on his way to propose to his girl friend. I bought him a drink. I figured we could both use one!

The other highlight was the mom who sat on the other side of the aisle. Like most moms she put her kids needs ahead of her own. She was smart enough to bring a Happy Meal on the plane for the kids, but neglected to bring a snack of her own. She asked her husband to buy her a snack box, but he declined. I had purchased a snack box of hummus, crackers and other snacks so I shared my bruschetta with her. She was happy, but her husband didn't like it. I think he thought she asked for it, but she didn't. I just know how much I hate being hungry!

I love how motherhood bonds!

I stayed at the Sheraton on Water Street and it was delightful. The room was great. They also had a wine tasting the day I checked out that had food paired with the wine and I had my first introduction to pork belly. It was possibly the best thing that I have tasted in my life.

Stay tuned for more information about my training and the device that I received!
