One Secret to a Working Mom Success: Celebrate the Seasons With Traditions

Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ! Things have been busy. I am still a working mom of three, working full time who is trying to make a difference. I do a lot of things and try to be present so that I can learn from them. I share them on this blog so that we can learn together. Below are some thoughts, hacks, and/or lessons that I have learned from navigating my world. "Family traditions counter alienation and confusion. They help us define who we are; they provide something steady, reliable and safe in a confusing world."— Susan Lieberman   Traditions have a way of defining a family, provide stability and give hope. They are especially important for woking moms who spend so much time working to provide for their family that they may miss some of the "traditional" mom things like bake sales, volunteering at the book fair, and a host of actual and seemingly made up holidays.  They are also important for families trying to reinvent themselves in the wake of d...

A Peek Into the Life of a Working Mom: Celebrating Memorial Day (#Memorial Day)

I can hardly believe that today is May 26th.

The first thought I have about this date is a selfish one. My maternity leave is ticking away and before too long I’ll be back at work. Time waits for no one. And I will be back to work sooner than I would like and this precious time will be a mere memory.

The second thought I have is that it is Memorial Day! Memorial Day, a day of remembering the men and women—our heroes—who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.  They died so that we could all enjoy the American way of life, often referred to as the pursuit of happiness. I have been even more mindful of this distinctly American way of life since having children. I am grateful of the gift of living in this country where I am able to provide them with a safe, loving environment, fresh water, good food and the opportunity to learn.  Because we live in America, they have the luxury of being children, enjoying their childhood and playing.  In a word, they can pursue happiness with enthusiasm every day!

So, on this Memorial Day I am giving thanks for our way of life, thanks for our troops who fought to protect it and thanks for my family who make me very happy.

Happy Memorial Day!!!

Memorial Day Celebration!
