Happy Summer!!!

Dog Days of Summer have begun Most working moms are exhausted this time of year. The kids are over school. The uniforms have holes in them and the book bags are held together with duct tape. And then, just like that, Memorial Day comes to help us cope with what we have to do. It gives us a reprieve to prepare for the summer--a less structured life filled with longer nights and more fun.

My Mom, An Inspiring Working Mom

Me and my mom
I am a hardworking, working mom. However, like a friend of mine would say, I didn’t invent the gig. Indeed, I follow in the footsteps and stand on the shoulders of those who came before me, including my own mother.

Her birthday is on February 9th. So, I wanted to acknowledge her. My mother is incredibly accomplished and is currently the Executive Director of Education for The Hillside Family of Agencies. Recently, she was the keynote speaker at Geneva’s 45th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. memorial service.

I just read the article discussing her speech and she dropped knowledge. She discussed what Dr. King’s life meant to her, the importance of parents having a vision for their children’s lives, and how education is the key to success. She also emphasized that the race is not over and the battle for equality has not been won. I’ve heard that she had the crowd on its feet, which is no surprise.
