Easter Reminded Me of the Miracles That Are My Children

Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Things have been busy. I am still a working mom of three, working full time who is trying to make a difference. I do a lot of things and try to be present so that I can learn from them. I share them on this blog so that we can learn together. Below are some thoughts, hacks, and/or lessons that I have learned from navigating my world. Below is a tale of my road to becoming the mother of three. It was a road filled with joys and disappointments. However, I wouldn't giving nothing for my journey now. Here's to embracing every step of the journey, even the painful ones, and embracing the lessons learned along the way.

A Working Mom's Take on The Coronavirus

Ready to battle COVID-19
UPDATE: The concern about COVID-19 has heightened since this original post was published. Stay safe and informed by reviewing the materials on the CDC website

Let's just tell the truth. All of this media coverage about the coronavirus and those poor folks who were quarantined on that cruise ship in Japan has made us all go bat sh*t crazy! And it didn't take much for someone like me to go there.

I am not a healthcare provider. I don’t even play one on TV. However, I work in healthcare. I am also a mom and a self-described germaphobe. And I have been an staunch advocate of hand washing since our health system launched an initiative about a decade ago. Through that I learned that feces is often found outside of the bathroom because folks aren't washing their hands. I also learned that when healthcare workers wash their hands, lives are saved.

The Truth About Coronavirus Infection: What Everyone Needs To Know

What upsets me most about this coronavirus coverage isn't that the hysteria is somewhat overblown (although it is if you talk with physicians), it is that everybody didn't get the damn message when they were five to wash their hands--often. We learned to wash our hands after using the restroom at least that's what Mrs. Marconi and the nuns emphasized when I was in Kindergarten. However, not everybody does it.

Think about the last time you were in the restroom and saw someone leave without washing their hands. Well, I just witnessed that on Sunday at a restaurant and was disgusted. Can you say, "NASTY?!"

I wondered whether that woman had seen any of the coronavirus coverage or if she was living under a rock. Then, I remember the lessons of Mrs. Marconi and the nuns. How did this woman miss that lesson??? I also thought, "If she's not doing it at a restaurant after opening the nasty stall, flushing the disgusting  ans using the facilities. When the hell is she doing it??? No wonder this COVID-19 sh*t is spreading?!" I thought it to myself and resisted the urge of following her and shaming her in front of everyone, but I was tempted!
People are NASTY!"

Indeed, I kept this occurrence to myself until now. However, an article I just read let me know that it was OK to share it. The article comforted me because it showed me that I am not alone in my conclusions. Here's the actual title, Turns Out We Were Disgusting Before Coronavirus. It kind of sums up everything I concluded on Sunday--the secret to containing the coronavirus may be people practicing basic hygiene. And the sad thing is, people aren't doing it...
