One Secret to a Working Mom Success: Celebrate the Seasons With Traditions

Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ! Things have been busy. I am still a working mom of three, working full time who is trying to make a difference. I do a lot of things and try to be present so that I can learn from them. I share them on this blog so that we can learn together. Below are some thoughts, hacks, and/or lessons that I have learned from navigating my world. "Family traditions counter alienation and confusion. They help us define who we are; they provide something steady, reliable and safe in a confusing world."— Susan Lieberman   Traditions have a way of defining a family, provide stability and give hope. They are especially important for woking moms who spend so much time working to provide for their family that they may miss some of the "traditional" mom things like bake sales, volunteering at the book fair, and a host of actual and seemingly made up holidays.  They are also important for families trying to reinvent themselves in the wake of d...

Fantasy Football…

I started this blog is because my world is interesting. For some reason, unknown to me, unusual things happen to me. Some of them are good. Some of them are bad, but they all lead to a good story. Now, after four years of living in Pittsburgh, I finally have a great Pittsburgh Steelers' story. Ironically, this Pittsburgh story would not have been possible without three men who hail from the great state of Tennessee.

Last Saturday, I met three charming African-American men in the lobby of the Omni William Penn Hotel here in Pittsburgh. That is unusual for Pittsburgh. Had I seen them and not met them, I would have called my friends to share the tale. However, the story gets better. The men were charming, generous, and most interested in hanging out with some Pittsburgh girls.

They were in town from Memphis for the Steelers/Cowboys game, one of the biggest games of the year. I met them. They liked me. I gave them directions to the mall. And the next morning, I had three tickets at the game on the lower level, in the end zone. My girls and I attended the game and had a great time.

Lest you think that I dispensed sexual favors for the tickets, I’ll clarify. I did no such thing. I merely dispensed directions with a dose of kindness. As I have learned many times, kindness pay off. And in this case, the Steelers won, completing my fantasy. I almost didn’t notice that I was absolutely freezing!
