One Secret to Success as a Working Mom: Stay Open to New Experiences

In the movie Love Jones , the male lead says, "romance is about the possibility of the thing." I agree with that. However, I think that the concept is more universal. life--truly living--is about the possibility of the thing. For a while, I was sleep walking through life, doing what was required without truly embracing it. Recent events have caused me to re-evaluate that and to embrace life and all of its limitless possibilities.   And romance, is about love. Over the past year I have become committed to falling back in love with my life. New relationships have made that love affair possible. And, I don't take them for granted. Creating space for new relationships and making new friends as a single, working mom, and creating space is not easy. But it is necessary. For that reason, I have committed to making new friendships, keeping the old productive ones, and enjoying them all--in the midst of working, parenting, and adulting . Toddler Tales: A Day Off for Mommy!

As I mentioned previously, I took a few days off to celebrate the 4th of July and to prepare for a large family event. There will be future posts about that event. There will be tales of the food catered by our families and Giant Eagle. There will be tales of our heartfelt emotions and the splendor of the day.  I will also share photos taken by our esteemed photographer,  Robert Armstrong

However, today, I was just a working mom who was reveling in the fact that she had a day off from work and had childcare.  Any working mom knows that a day off + childcare = heaven!

Because this is Chaton's World and something always comes up, I did not have as much free time as I had hoped. I had to drive my sister to the Pittsburgh International Airport this morning because she had to rearrange her flight that was scheduled for last night. The combination of the holiday week and unreliable crew members disrupted her plans.  After driving her to the airport last night we went to Old Navy to buy her an outfit to wear to work today and some things for me and for the baby.  We got lots of things and aid nothing, compliments of our brother Adam Golden. (He's the best!)

So, I got some new, free, clothes and some an extra, unexpected evening with my sister.  Like the Mastercard ads say, the time with her was priceless.

After taking my sister to the airport, I met the toddler and her nanny at the Children's Museum for "Tot Time". She loves "Tot Time". They sing songs like "If You're Happy and You Know It". They use bright colored scarves. They climb through tunnels. They have lots of fun. They also have an outdoor classroom that is designed to stimulate every child's imagination. She loves it. And I loved spending the time with her.

For the working mom nothing beats having a day off! (I even managed to get a manicure and pedicure. I haven't had one at a nail salon since I was seven months pregnant!)
