A Secret to Success as a Working Mom: Turn Burn Out Into Bliss and Embrace Joy

Last weekend my youngest was committed to going to the "Water Steps" a man-made water fall in Pittsburgh by the rivers. (Fun Fact: Three rivers converge in Pittsburgh--The Ohio River, The Monongahela River, and the Allegheny River.)  He kept asking. I knew he was serious when he said, "If you won't take me, I'll ask  daddy!" Given that it was highly unlikely that would happen on an unscheduled day, I relented. So, we went. It wasn’t planned in the way most things in my life are. No calendar block. No checklist. No “productive” purpose attached. And, so in some respects it was uncomfortable. And yet, it seemed necessary. It was the idea of my 8-year-old—offered with the kind of urgency only children possess when something is profoundly important to them.

Working Mom Pick Me Up #MondayMotivation

On top of the world!

Even though we celebrate our working mom journeys, sometimes we need a little inspiration. We often need that inspiration on Monday mornings when we may be ambivalent about returning to our workweek routines after the weekend.

The photo above gave me inspiration this morning. It was taken while my daughter and I were on top of the highest building between New York and Chicago on one "Take Your Child to Work Day". It reminds me that work is not an inconvenience.

Working Moms Need to Remember that Our Work Makes Our Families Better

Rather, it is something that provides for our bills, gives me the chance to use my skills and training, and also opens doors for my kids to have some awesome opportunities. In a word, I work where I do, doing what I do because my family is better for it, even with all of the sacrifices. Still, on Mondays, I often need a reminder and inspiration.

Below is a link to some quotes from some working moms about their journeys. It reminds me that we are all in this together!

ENJOY!!!
