One Secret to a Working Mom Success: Make Family Events More Enjoyable With Friends

Better Together: Why Inviting Another Family Makes Activities More Fun #FamilyFun Sometimes family activities can feel like another item on the to-do list. However, doing those activities with another family makes them more fun! Whether it’s a trip to an amusement park , a visit to the local pool , or trip to a pumpkin patch , including another family can multiply the fun in amazing ways. One of my favorite moms to collaborate with is my friend, Ayana Ledford who's pictured above with her daughter Sahar. We have done all of the things listed as seemingly random examples above and here is how including her and her daughter (and sometimes her son too) has made the events more fun. On the date above, Ayana almost left the venue because parking was a nightmare. That said, she hung in there and we would up having a great time!

Birthday Reflections...

Birthday Photo
"joy unspeakable and full of glory" 1 Peter 1:8

My life has been jam packed lately, which is why I haven't posted. My brother-in-law got married last Saturday. Four of us were in the wedding and we hosted my sister. There was hair to be done, makeup to be applied, and clothes to be donned. And, although I am self sufficient, professionals were utilized! Above is a photo of me and my full hair. Now there are layers. I'm still adjusting...

In any event, last week was also my birthday!!! (I celebrate all month. So, let the well wishes flow!)

It was blessed in its imperfection. I started the day early, ended the day tired, and there were both joys and disappointments throughout the day. There was also a cake, flowers, and literally hundreds of well wishes IRL and on social media. It was a day—full of its magical splendor, punctuated by expressions of love--and I was there to experience it which made it amazing.

For that reason, the above biblical quote captures my sentiments.

I have lived long enough to witness the joys and heartaches of life. I have seen young, vibrant people plucked from this earth too soon. I have seen suffering. I have also experienced the tremendous exuberance that comes with bringing life into the world times three.

I consider each day whether happy or sad to be a blessing. My experiences have taught me four lessons. I am brave. I am blessed. I am beloved. And regardless of what life throws at me I can bounce back from anything. On my birthday, more than any other day, I reflect on those things and I am grateful.

Below is a birthday poem I wrote several years ago for a friend. I share it with all of you because these are also the wishes I have for myself.

Here are my birthday wishes for you…
May you always be wise
May you never be sad
May each year be the best you've ever had
May you have abundant love
May you never know sorrow
May you lay down each night hoping for tomorrow
May you always feel young
May you appreciate your age
May you end your life wishing you'd do it the same again.
