One Secret to Success as a Working Mom: Stay Open to New Experiences

In the movie Love Jones , the male lead says, "romance is about the possibility of the thing." I agree with that. However, I think that the concept is more universal. life--truly living--is about the possibility of the thing. For a while, I was sleep walking through life, doing what was required without truly embracing it. Recent events have caused me to re-evaluate that and to embrace life and all of its limitless possibilities.   And romance, is about love. Over the past year I have become committed to falling back in love with my life. New relationships have made that love affair possible. And, I don't take them for granted. Creating space for new relationships and making new friends as a single, working mom, and creating space is not easy. But it is necessary. For that reason, I have committed to making new friendships, keeping the old productive ones, and enjoying them all--in the midst of working, parenting, and adulting . Are children just small crazy drunk people???

While watching E! last night I read that someone tweeted, "Children are like crazy, drunken small people in your house". I totally agree.

Since becoming a mom I have learned that children can be erratic and hard to control, just like crazy, drunken people. When children engage in this erratic, hard to control behavior, they get on everyone's nerves, but they seem to think that their behavior is normal. Children wet their pants at the most inopportune times. And frequently create messes that other people are forced to clean up.  And in the morning, children seem to have no recollection of their misdeeds from the night before.  Sound familiar?!

Last night my baby went crazy.  For whatever reason,
she abandoned her calm, good sleeping demeanor and became a crazed little monster.  She was crying uncontrollably--the ugly cry.  She was shaking and refused to be consoled.  I offered her the pacifier.  She usually takes it and it soothes her.  Last night she smacked it out of my hand and knocked it to the floor.  When I managed to get it into her mouth she took it out and threw it across the room.  She kept trying to leap from my arms like she was trying to run away.  Here's the thing though, she can't walk yet.  Where exactly did she think she was going?!

I have no idea what got into her.  She did the same routine at midnight, 4:00 AM and at 6:00 AM.  She was completely out of control!

I think that I failed the mother test though.  I failed to control the situation.  At every juncture she was in control and I was her subject.

When 7:15 AM arrived I was worn out and she was laughing.  I am convinced that not only are children like crazy, drunken small people in your house. They completely have you hostage.  #lovingmycaptor!!!
