Celebrity Sports Moms Have the Same Challenges We Do

Image
My daughter and me "First Day of Kindergarten"  There are several examples that remind us that the world of work was not designed with women, or at least those of childbearing age, in mind. That includes the world of sports. A recent article discussed that only one mother has one Wimbledon in 100 years. It got me thinking about this issue of workplace accommodation and how much opportunity there still exists for equity.

Merry Go 'Round at Magic Kingdom Say what you want about "Keeping Up With the Kardashians", those folks know how to take great vacations! While our vacations aren't on the same scale, I do try to create opportunities for my kids to have memorable experiences. Photo credit: McDonald's Restaurants I took a tour of McDonald's sometime ago where I was reassured about the safety of their ingredients, their commitment to providing healthy food to families, and reminded that McDonald's French Fries might just be one of the best things ever invented! And did you know that Egg McMuffins are made with real eggs and if you're an egg whites only kind of mom they can accommodate that request too?! Indeed, McDonald's aims to please... That's why I was honored when they hired me to share with you the news about their upcoming event, "Global Delivery Day"!

Eight Proven Ways For Working Moms to Get More Out of Life

Image
On PTO at Disney World "[S]ucess is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure." -- Colin Powell Working moms are constantly asking me tips about how to succeed. I've learned that nobody works harder than working moms, we have to. So, the motivation for these questions has nothing to do with being afraid to do what it takes. Instead, it has everything to do with the numerous demands placed on us. It's not that we don't know how to succeed, it's that we struggle to execute what we know with the limited time that we have to think about such things.

3 Secrets to Help Working Moms Look Good While Doing it all

Image
Wearing black a lot is one secret to success “All of you are perfect just as you are... and there is still room for improvement!” - Shunryu Suzuki – Working moms struggle with finding time to do everything.  It's not a time management issue. Rather, it's an over commitment issue.  Most working moms will tell you, regardless if they have a spouse, that they are the primary caregiver and household manager. True, there are exceptions. I even know women married to men who do 1/2 or more. However, not every mom is that lucky. Many carry the entire mental load of managing the home and perform most mandatory yet mundane tasks. The Reason Working Moms Are Exhausted: The "Mental Load" I have long said that there is something infinitely different about being a "manager" and a "helper". Being a manager is time consuming, even when you are not actually "doing the work" because you are always thinking about the work and you are pl
