Four Things Working Moms Really Want for Mother's Day

Image
My babies... Mother's Day is today and there are lots of lists describing what you should by a deserving mom. There are restaurant deals and commercials all celebrating mothers. It's a beautiful time of year. And since people struggle trying to find the perfect gift, I thought I'd give you some ideas. The best thing for you is, they are mostly free! Working Moms Really Want a Break for Mother's Day

My Second Birth Taught Me The Depths of My Love #MothersDay

Baby with first signs of eye infection With the Internet flooded with "Mommy Blogs", there is no shortage of women writing about what being a mom means to them. These women gush about motherhood and describe how it is the hardest yet most rewarding job on earth. And they are right. Still there is room for more stories. Motherhood is a similar journey, but every story is unique. Last year, I became a mom for the second time. And that experience taught me what I am made of...

My greatest honor is being called "Mom" #MothersDay

Last year, I wrote a piece that year that captured my sentiments about being a mom. It meant so much to me that I thought I'd share it again.   ENJOY!!! A Peek Into the Life of a Working Mom: Happy Father's Day

Image
A great partner is the key to success for most working moms.  So, on this Father’s Day, I have to give a shout out to my husband who is consistently the finest dad any child could have. For those who think this blog post is the equivalent of a “Facebook Fake Post”, you’re wrong. I’ll be the first to say that Andre doesn’t always parent the way that I wish that he did, sometimes he gets on my nerves, and he gave our daughter ice cream before I thought she was ready.  Indeed, I have whined about such things on this blog.  However, just because he’s not my puppet does not mean that he isn’t a most amazing father.  The photos tell the tale perfectly. However, I would also like to say that I could not have chosen a better father for my children. He knows what they need and how to provide it for them.  He also pays attention to what they want and tries to make their dreams come true.  My children are very blessed simply because he is who he is. And I am blessed that we found each other.

My mom, me and my daughter, three generations of Griffin women Last night, on Mother’s Day Eve, I was in my daughter’s room rocking in her rocking chair with my son. My daughter was sitting on the floor reading a book to us and laughing. It was a moment of sheer bliss and something occurred to me. I am a mom to two kids and everything that goes along with that.  Being a mother makes me appreciate my own even more

A Peek Into the Life of a Working Mom: Judging Other Mothers…

Image
As Mother’s Day approaches I find myself thinking about mothers , my own mother, my friends, and myself. Recently, I read an article about Maggie Gyllenhaal who reflected on how judgmental she was of other mothers before she had children and I could relate. Before having children I judged other mothers... Before having children I judged my mother’s parenting ever so critically. She worked during my childhood. Still, I wondered why she couldn’t make homemade Halloween costumes, pick me up from school on time and have dinner ready every night. It never occurred to me that 24 hours is simply not enough time to be a good wife, stellar employee and keep a home like Martha Stewart . Instead, I thought that our lives would be better if only she tried harder. How hard?! As a child, I didn’t quantify such things. I was self absorbed and merely wanted my mom to do more.   Being a working mom has made me humble... Now that I am a working mom, I judge no one. If I see mom with a lit

Mommy Mondays!

Image
Mondays are a milestone for most moms. I'm no different. I work outside the home and I try to do too much on the weekend. It's inevitable. I am me and I live in Chaton's World.  If you hadn't noticed Chaton's World can be a little chaotic. However, it can also be funny. Generally I am living my life on Sunday night and then BAM! It's midnight and I still have lots to do.  Last night, I got tired at 11:00 PM. It may have had something to do with getting up early for the Pittsburgh Marathon .  There was that little stomach thing before the race. There was also the walk that we took after the race to the finish line, my decision to post photos to Facebook instead of napping with the toddler, and dinner and  wine with my parents and brother.  When I got home from my parents' house I was beat. The baby was beat too. I dispensed with her bath and just did a quick wash up and story. She didn't even care. She was tired and so was I. For that r
